Save your packing paper, paper bags, leftover gift wrap or other paper for our Monday, February 20 regular bi-monthly evening meeting. We will be using an article from “Handwoven” March-April 1994 as the starting point for weaving paper (bag) baskets. The article is on “Handwoven’s” website as a free download at handwoven_1994_03_04.pdf or in the magazine pages 68-70. This pattern uses 3 grocery bags cut into 3-1⁄2” strips to makes a square basket about 6” across by 8” tall. You will also want clothespins (preferably small ones from craft section) or metal alligator electrical clips for making corners. For the adventurous, changing size or number of strips and using different types of paper will get different results. A faster, simpler project is a flat square or rectangle for a coaster (narrower strips), trivet, placemat, etc. Paper strip preparation takes a bit of time and is best done before the meeting to allow as much time as possible for weaving.
