Hawaiʻi Island Mathemagical Design Workshop with Jennifer Moore

Join us for a two and a half day workshop, Mathemagical Design: Symmetries, Tessellations and the Golden Proportion, with instructor, Jennifer Moore. Registration is open to the public. • Member: $265 plus $35 materials fee payable to instructor
• Non-member: $315 plus $35 materials fee payable to instructor

• Housing at Kilauea Military Camp at Volcanoes National Park is available; information will be provided upon registration. There is a $25 entry fee into Volcanoes National Park valid for 7 days.

Jennifer Moore holds an MFA in Fibers and specializes in exploring mathematical patterns and musical structures in doubleweave wall hangings. She has exhibited throughout the world, receiving numerous awards for her work, and has been featured in many weaving publications. Jennifer lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and travels extensively to teach workshops in doubleweave, color and geometric design. Jennifer was invited to teach doubleweave to indigenous Quechua weavers in Peru in 2013, where they are once again excelling in this technique which had been discontinued after the Spanish conquest. She is the author of The Weaver’s Studio: Doubleweave, several doubleweave videos and online courses, and numerous articles.

Jan. 16, 2020, 9 am-12:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to work with these wonderful tools for visual design, but been scared off by a lack of drawing or math skills? This workshop is for you! We will take a visual and intuitive approach to working with symmetry movements, tiling patterns and harmonious proportions including the Fibonacci series. Through a series of fun exercises using drawing, coloring, rubber stamps and paper cutouts you will create a toolbox of skills to use in creating your own harmonious designs and go home with a new way of looking at the world. There is no weaving in this workshop.
