Guest Lecture on Traditional Māori Weaving

Indigenous Māori weavers of Te Whare Iwaiwa (The Weaving House of Iwaiwa), Nate Rowe and Rex Shim will be visiting from Aotearoa New Zealand and will give a lecture on mahi raranga (traditional Māori weaving techniques). They use Harakeke and Wharariki (New Zealand flax varieties) to weave kākahu (Māori clothing), such as pāke and piupiu and kete.

They will speak to a few of the taonga as well as to some of the Kōrero-tuku-iho or ancient narratives of weaving from Aotearoa New Zealand and the connections back to Hawai`i and other motu or islands in Polynesia as well. 

General Admission $5.

There will be no refunds on the registration fee. Please let us know if you are unable to attend the lecture.
