Join us for Basic Loom Weaving with Jill Cohen and Jo Hittner

A basic class for people who want to learn how to set up a loom and weave cloth. On the first day, you will set up a 4 shaft table loom: measuring a warp and beaming it on the loom, threading the heddles, sleying the reed and tying on to the front beam. Then you’ll weave cloth – plain weave, twill, basket weave and more.

On day two you will continue your weaving exploration so you can take home handwoven cloth that you’ve made from start to finish.

  • 4 shaft table loom will be provided for each student as well as all equipment needed for loom setup.
  • All supplies and equipment for this class will be provided and is included in the cost of the class
  • Please bring lunch, beverage, snacks for the day.

Instructor Bios:

Jill Cohen lives in Mt. View and has been weaving for more than ten years.  She mainly weaves functional household items such as towels, placemats, napkins and runners with the occasional foray into wearables.

Hilo resident Jo Hittner has been weaving for about 15 years. She prefers practical projects that can be sold or given as gifts. She enjoys learning new techniques that challenge her skills. Her background is teaching all age levels, from first graders to advanced university degrees. She is excited to be tdaching weaving to people new to the hobby.
