Join us for Kumihimo Bracelet - Ribbon Braid Round with Randy Spicocchi

Join us as we braid using the ancient Japanese technique of Kumihimo to explore various styles and designs with Randy Spicocchi. We will offer a series of new classes in Kumihimo over the next several months.

This beginner class focuses on crafting a fiber bracelet with ribbons. You will construct a bracelet using various ribbons and embellish with a decorative button clasp. Students are welcome to bring a favorite button shank with advanced permission to ensure it will work.

Kumihimo skills introduced include basic movements on a foam disk, pattern selection (shape is round), color selection, problem solving, and finishing up with a loop to place around a button.

This class is open to all, no experience required.

Students should be able to grasp and move ribbons with fingers. For this class we will use ribbons instead of Chinese knotting cord. It is wider and therefore easier to manipulate for those with arthritis or stiff fingers.

There will be an additional supply fee of $50 paid to the instructor on the day of class. The supply fee will be reduced to $30 if you already have a Kumihimo Disk.

Supplies Include:

  • Kumihimo 6” Disk
  • Fiber (Italian Ribbons) and threads needed to finish braid for up to an 8” bracelet (excluding tassels)
  • Button Shanks (with large enough hole for all 8 cords). Students will select from several options in advance seen in color photos above.
  • Counter Weight to be used while braiding
  • Accent beads as appropriate.

All materials will be provided.

What to Bring:

  • $50 supply fee
  • Paper and pencils for note taking
  • Drink (optional)
