Join us for Quilted Sneakers with Marcia Krieger & Carolyn Barsness.

Make your own bespoke quilted sneakers! Have you seen the latest style in sneakers - comfortable sneaker soles with quilted uppers? They are fun and easy to make. You can design and make low tops or high tops with your choice of upper, sole and laces. You can use fabric in your stash or get new fabric. No special skills or equipment is required, but you must be familiar with your sewing machine to quilt the uppers.

The Hui is offering an all-day sneaker assembly workshop on January 16 beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm, with spillover on Jan 17, as needed.
All you will need is a sneaker kit (sole, pattern in your size, insole, needle and waxed thread) and your choice of upper materialand thread (quilted fabric that you will make into shoe uppers before the assembly class on Jan. 16)

After confirmation of registration, the instructor will send you a form to fill out for your shoe kit, be sure to send your filled form by email to yyournnamee@hotmail.com by December 5 so that a kit can be ordered for you.

Instruction: We recommend buying the book entitled "Happy Feet! - A Guide to Making Quilted Sneakers".  You can find it on Etsy or Thrift Books. There are also several instructional videos on the internet (see below)

Before the Jan 16 Workshop, you will need to design your sneakers and make your uppers. This involves quilting the fabric, cutting out the right size pattern and binding off the visible edges. We will have a zoom session for instruction as to how to do this on a date that will be determined once registration is completed. If you cannot attend, contact Marcia Krieger at yyournnamee@hotmail.com or Carolyn Barsness at crbarsness@aol.com. We can walk you through the process or direct you to other resources.

Supply fee: The Hui will place a single order for all who want kits from The Chicago School of Shoemaking advantage of a bulk discount of 20%. The kits will be available at the workshop. The cost for the kit (and purchase of eyelets and tools that we will supply) will be $65. Your only other costs will be for the material you choose for the uppers (2 fat quarters of quilting fabric and foam interfacing between) and laces.

You likely will be able to complete one shoe and be close to completing your second one by the end of the workshop. If you want to return the next day to complete assembly, we will be available to help you.
