Announcing a Special Filipino Weaving Experience With Hawai'i Handweavers' Hui and East-West Center Gallery
Come and immerse yourself in this special Exhibit followed by a weaving workshop

10:00 – 10:30 am Walk-Through Tour of the East-West Center Gallery Exhibit with Curator Iris Viacrusis.
10:30 am – 3:00 pm Weaving Workshop on site with two native Filipino weavers visiting from the Philippines.
We will begin with a slide presentation to introduce the fibers and weavings from different regions of the Philippines, with a special focus on pineapple and banana cloth.
The hands-on workshop will focus on special weaving techniques from the Ilocos region of the Philippines. The textiles are called binakul and have 3-dimensional-like patterns that create optical illusions. Basic knowledge of weaving is required.
Cost: $65 Includes all supplies and instruction (loom, yarns, etc.). Payment on site by cash, check (payable to Iris Gil Designs) or credit card.
Refreshments: You may want to bring your own packaged lunch.
